And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. (Acts 2:17)

1 Kings - Highlights & Notes 1 | 2>>

Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat. (1st Book of Kings 1:2, KJV)

And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not. (1Ki 1:4)

And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter (1Ki 3:1)

And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yerned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. (1Ki 3:24-27)

And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. (1Ki 4:29)

And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men. (1Ki 4:30) - Some great Bible scriptures and Bible stories can be found in the books of the Old Testament. Click here for one of the best Old Testament bibles.

And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom. (1Ki 4:34) - So great was King Solomon's wisdom that other kings and queens would travel across the globe to hear Solomons words, including the Queen of Sheba.

And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him (1Ki 5:12) - One of my favorite bible verses.

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. (1Ki 8:9) - Other relics like manna and Aaron's rod may have been stored in the Ark of the Covenant at some stage.

And have built a house for the name of Lord God of Israel. And I have set there a place for the ark. (1Ki 8:20-21)

And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou speakest unto thy servant David my father. But will God indeed dwell on the earth? (1Ki 8:26-27)

If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not) (1Ki 8:46)

For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron (1Ki 8:51)

And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. (1Ki 8:63)

Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel. But if you shall at all turn from following me, you or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people. (1Ki 9:5-7)

For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife. (1Ki 9:16) - The people of Canaan.

She came to prove him with hard questions. (1Ki 10:1) - Queen Sheba tests Solomon's wisdom.

And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not any thing hid from the king, which he told her not. (1Ki 10:3)

Thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard. (1Ki 10:7)

But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; Of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father. (1Ki 11:1-4)

And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as he did David his father. (1Ki 11:6)

And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice. (1Ki 11:9)

I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. (1Ki 11:12)

Are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon? (1Ki 11:41)

Thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes; But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images. (
1Ki 14:8-9)

For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree. And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations. (
1Ki 14:23-24)

And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made. (
1Ki 14:26)

Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah... And he walked in all the sins of his father... for David's sake did the Lord his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem: Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Urijah the Hittite. (
1Ki 15:1-5)

Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. (
1Ki 15:11-12)

Asa's heart was perfect with the Lord all his days. (
1Ki 15:14)

And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him. In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun. (
1Ki 16:33-
34)
